Poggio al Granchio is influenced by nearby Monte Amiata and a warmer, more continental climate, but with a wider day-night temperature range.
Poggio al Granchio
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Located on the southeastern slope, Poggio al Granchio is a succulent, dense Brunello with the typical iron and blood-rich meat notes of Sangiovese. It has distinctive overtones of red and dark fruit, cherry, redcurrant, blackberry, myrtle and peach leaves, with a sapid, mineral finish.
The Vineyard
Thee landscape
The surrounding area is covered with oak trees, holm oaks and broom bushes. The soils consist of galestro schist, typical of this side of the appellation.
In the cellar
Ageing is done in a dedicated cellar, 24 months in 60-hl French oak barrels, followed by 6 months in concrete and 9 to 12 months of bottle maturation.
